The holiday season is often a time for parties and other types of get-togethers. Occasionally, people have too much to drink during these events, and that can lead to numerous problems if they subsequently choose to operate a motor vehicle. Not to mention, those problems can increase substantially if the person driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is involved in a car accident that causes injury to another person. A Lawrence man is now facing charges in connection with an accident that took place in which a pedestrian was struck by a car.
According to the Tewksbury Police, the incident occurred at around 4:00 p.m. near the intersection of Route 38 and Chandler Street. A call to the police reported that a man had been hit by a car. Details concerning the victim were not released, but he was taken to Saints Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
The 36-year-old driver of the car was arrested and charged with OUI-Drugs and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. There is no indication that authorities requested the man to perform any field sobriety tests or had him submit to a breathalyzer test at the scene. The man's current status is not known, but his vehicle was towed away from the car accident.
When residents of Lawrence are injured in any type of accident, they may have legal options available to them. These options can include civil actions to recover monetary damages for injuries and related pain and suffering. Reimbursement for lost wages may also be recovered from individuals responsible for the accident. A legal professional can help explain what options a victim may have if he or she has been injured as well as assess the facts and circumstances to help the victim determine the appropriate legal steps.
